Few people know that Caruso was also a composer and enjoyed writing the occasional song. Of course, he was an amateur composer who limited himself to finding a beautiful melody on the piano and then having it harmonised by his accompanist, Richard Barthélemy or by Henri J. Van Praag, conductor of the orchestra at the Hotel Knickerbocker, where Caruso lived whenever he sang at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
