La Quatrième Fantaisie pour Piano, Hautbois et Basson, sur un thème de Rossini, op. 21 (Paris, chez Frère) che Henri Brod dedica al suo amico Barizel prevede, anche se non espressamente dichiarato nel titolo (ma segnalato a piccole lettere in calce) la possibilità di sostituire la parte dell’oboe con quella del flauto. La composizione è alquanto impegnativa per tutti gli interpreti e specialmente se immaginiamo gli strumenti a fiato dell’epoca. Dopo la grandiosa introduzione, il tema rossiniano viene sottoposto a quattro variazioni; chiude la Fantasia un finale brillante e virtuosistico.
