Errico Petrella (Palermo 1813 - Genova 1877) fu un importante compositore italiano dell’800. Giovanissimo iniziò a Napoli gli studi musicali con Saverio del Giudice, a dieci anni venne ammesso come esterno alla scuola di S. Sebastiano e nel 1825, dopo esame, presso il Real Collegio… La contessa d’Amalfi, dramma lirico in quattro atti, tratto dal dramma Dalila di Octave Feuillet, su libretto di G. Peruzzini fu rappresentato la prima volta presso il Teatro Regio di Torino l’8 marzo 1864 sotto la direzione dello stesso autore; dell’opera seguirono varie repliche e rappresentazioni in diversi teatri d’Italia fra cui Teatro S. Carlo di Napoli (1867), Teatro Regio di Parma (1869) e Carlo Felice di Genova (1884).
Errico Petrella (Palermo 1813 - Genoa 1877) was an important Italian composer of the 19th century. Very young he began his musical studies in Naples with Saverio del Giudice, at the age of ten he was admitted as an external to the school of S. Sebastiano and in 1825, after examination, at the Real Collegio. The Countess of Amalfi, an opera in four acts, based on the play Dalila by Octave Feuillet, with libretto by G. Peruzzini, was performed for the first time at the Teatro Regio in Turin on 8 March 1864 under the direction of the same author; of the opera followed various replicas and performances in various theaters in Italy including the Teatro S. Carlo in Naples (1867), the Teatro Regio in Parma (1869) and Carlo Felice in Genoa (1884)
