Composto in Finlandia e terminato ad Jyväskylä il 2 Luglio del 1964, il brano ebbe la sua prima esecuzione soltanto il 9 Aprile del 1979 al Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma ad opera di Gian-Luca Petrucci e Donna Magendanz-Guarino in seno ad un concerto commemorativo in omaggio a Enrico Mainardi. Nella stessa occasione venne svolta anche la prima esecuzione dell’Improvviso per flauto, violoncello e pianoforte, composto nel 1962, che, insieme al Trio per la medesima formazione, completa la silloge dei brani cameristici per flauto composti da Mainardi.
